Ahafo Regional Security Council Imposes Curfew On Bomaa

The Ahafo Regional Minister, George Boakye has imposed a curfew on Bomaa in the Tano North Municipal with immediate effect.

This was done in collaboration with the members of the Regional Security Council and in consultation with the Interior Minister and the National Security Minister.

The decision of the Ahafo REGSEC follows violent clashes that claimed one life and caused injuries to five others on Sunday, January 8, 2023.

“The curfew shall be in force from 5 pm to 7 am daily, pending periodic assessments and reviews.” a statement from the Minister said.

One person was reportedly shot dead at Bomaa following a chieftaincy dispute in the community.

The shooting occurred as a result of contention between two families in the town over who succeeds the late chief of the town.

Several others also got injured in the incident and were sent to some nearby health facilities for treatment.

AHAFO REGIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL IMPOSES CURFEW ON THE BOMAA COMMUNITY
The Ahafo Regional Minister Honourable George Boakye in collaboration with the members of the Regional Security Council and in consultation with the Interior Minister and the National Security Minister have imposed curfew on Bomaa in the Tano North Municipal with immediate effect.
The curfew shall be in force from 5pm to 7am everyday pending periodic assessments and reviews.
The decision of the Ahafo REGSEC has been necessitated following violent clashes that claimed one life and causing injuries to five others on Sunday night.
It should be recalled that in recent times, there has been misunderstanding between two chieftancy fashions in the town.
Honourable George Boakye and the top security officials in the Region as well as the Honourable Ernest Kwarteng (MCE, Tano North), Honourable Yaw Osei Boahen (MCE, Asunafo North) have since visited the community to assess the situation at first hand.
The Minister and his entourage visited the family of the deceased to commiserate with them on their loss. He however charged the security to continue full investigations till justice is served.
They also touched base with the leaders of the two stakeholder groups in the town to appeal for calm.
