The Concern Drivers Association of Ghana has described as fraudulent the government’s ‘oil for gold’ policy and is threatening to adjust upwards transportation fares.

In a release issued on February 1, available to MyGhanaMedia.com, it cautioned the government to refrain from deceiving Ghanaians with its “so-called” plan to buy cheap fuel for the Ghanaian market with gold.

According to the Association, “It is an open secret that the country is broke and our reserves are so low that we don’t have enough dollars to keep our economy alive.”

The statement disputed claims the flagship government policy will make fuel prices cheaper.

“The government’s plans to buy cheaper fuel on the international market with our low gold reserves can’t work because there is no cheaper fuel on the market,” the statement noted.

“It’s obvious no country in the world will sell you oil for less than the standard price,: it stressed.

The oil for gold policy, according to the Concern Drivers Association of Ghana, will only make room for the lack of foreign currencies, not about making fuel cheaper.

The government’s intention of trying to confuse the issue and trick us won’t work.

The Association further took a swipe at Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta.

“Whenever the Vice President Dr.Alhaji Bawumia and Ken Ofori-Atta get involved in any policies, it turn out not to materialised. Their incompetency is beyond imagination hence, they still many sensitive positions of our economy.”

It added, “Also, we would like to announce to the general public that, prices of fuel has increased.”

“With the current increment, we will have no option than to increase our fares. In this regards, the public should expect an increment of fares in some few days to come since prices fuel has started hitting the roof,” the statement concluded
