Akyem Abuakwa Council of Zongo Chiefs Holds First Council Meeting In 2023

The National Vice President of the Council of Zongo Chiefs, Sariki Alhaji Abubakar Umar has charged Muslim men to stand-up against Election disturbance and all forms of domestic violence.

Alhaji Abubakar Umar disclosed that Muslim as a responsible religion, members believes in peace as a tool that helps in nation building therefore, he has charged them to live decent lifestyle.

Alhaji Omar who also doubles as the President of Akyem Abuakwa Council of Zongo Chiefs gave the advise in an interview with Afeema FM’s journalist Kaakyire Kwasi Afari at the first quarter council meeting held in Kyebi on Saturday, 4th February, 2023.

The first council meeting brought together 85 Muslim’s Chiefs, Imams from Akyem Abuakwa, representatives from Eastern Region and an observer representing the national Council of Zongo Chiefs to discuss about welfare and challenges confronting Muslims and people’s living in Zongos and finally suggested solutions to help address the phenomenon.

The executive committee of the council presented a report before the house that elections and domestic violence against women has reached a devastating scale in Zongo communities whiles school attendance continue to decline.

Reacting to the committee’s report, the president of Akyem Abuakwa Council of Zongo Chiefs indicated that some parents would consider purchasing huge smocks for event such as funerals but would neglect to invest for the education of their wards.

To this end, Alhaji Umar has pleaded with Muslims and residents in Zongo communities to prioritize supporting their children education by paying school fees.
Alhaji Umar bemoan that domestic Violence is an issue that affects all communities and Ghana including Zongo Communities adding that men have a responsibility to stand-up against it and say no to such behavior.

According to the vice president of the National Council of Zongo Chief’s, violence against women is human rights and developmental issues and the negative effects go beyond the survivor including the immediate family and society’s development.

Alhaji Umar mentioned that Muslim believes strongly that it’s a Haram to wit taboo to use your wife as a punching bag. Therefore, he has charged Imams to preach against domestic violence against women.

As various political party’s in Ghana are set to hit across every corner of the country for campaign, Muslims youth have been cautioned to remain vigilant and abstain from dirty politics and its related violence.

According to Alhaji Abubakar Umar, Zongos should no longer be reference point where violence minded people would come to recruit the youth unleash their evil gain emphasizing that Islam is a peace loving religion.

He told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari that, the peaceful co-existence among all Christians and Muslims is paramount and that, it should not be taken for jokes.

The Vice president of the National Council of Zongo Chiefs asked the Muslim believers to reflect positive attitude to uphold the tenets of Islamic religion.
