The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate hopeful and senior lecturer at the University of Education Winneba (UEW),  Mr. Eric Sakyi Nketiah has stated that the country must institute better social intervention policies that would provide solid support for the aged to live better lives.

He stated further that any African country that does not implement better plans that will empower the aged and the less privileged to enable them live comfortably longer is not a visionary country due to the fact that the aged people also deserve better healthy living conditions after serving the country in good faith.

Mr Nketiah promised that when he gets the opportunity to govern this country, he will fast-track the implementation of policies that are gear towards changing the lives of all senior citizens in Ghana.

Mr. Nketiah disclosed this at a public lecture at Akyem Oda Methodist Conference Hall in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region and therefore that added it is a reality that most of the Ghanaian-aged people depend solely on their bonds in the banks, and therefore the issue of Domestic Debt Exchange Program ( DDEP) is a big blow to them hence the urgent need for Government to the decision and rather focus on what could be done to ignite the economic lives of our senior citizens.

He lamented about the high importations of food commodities like rice and other goods from other countries with huge sums of dollars which can be produced locally here in Ghana .He therefore reiterated the need for government to invest into the agricultural sector with the ultimate goal of encouraging the youth to venture into it due to fact that agriculture is the main engine of every country’s economic growth as well as to reduce the high rate of food importations.
