PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY SAVE GHANA FOUNDATION ON THE VERDICT OF THE 2020 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION PETITION

We congratulate the Supreme Court of Ghana for a swift and tactful manner it handled the 2020 presidential election petition. It had been three months of solid turn of events in the court.

The petitioner, Mr. Mahama has sort for by virtue of case management five relief of issues. The former president demonstrated good citizenship by proceeding to court to be heard.

In equal fashion, the first and second respondents by practice of law availed themselves in their respective roles in the just ended petition. We commend the respondents as well. As the petitioner was seriously making his case, the respondents also made firm stands of their position.

One will say it was an interesting showdown in court by the petitioner’s witnesses “2” and “3” as the court described their accounts as “fanciful tales” while Johnson Asiedu Nketia was referred to as the “star witness” because of some level of convincing account given.

A critical look at the detailed 58-page verdict shows that the bench in respect to law and common sense approach dealt with the entire proceedings well enough. We are optimistic the petition will go a long way to deepen our electoral process and democracy at large.

We are by this press release calling on the petitioner, John Dramani Mahama to as a matter of importance congratulate President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.

Thank you.
