By-Elections Should Be Cancelled – Political Analyst

Spread the love
A Political Science lecturer at Kumasi Technical University, Mr. Owusu Agyabeng has proposed that by-elections should be cancelled from the Ghanaian electoral system.
According to him, there is the need a constitutional amendment to enable the party that was having a Parliamentarian in that particular Constituency to replace a credible personality to represent the people.
He reiterated that this practice will save the country a lot of resources and time rather than using our scarce resources in conducting by-election
He urged government and the political parties to take a second look at this issue, because when it is implemented, it will ameliorate the political parties from the numerous challenges that they normally encounter during by-elections.

He indicated that he was not surprised about the outcome of the Kumawu by-election because it is one of the world banks of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region. He further added that NPP fraternity in the Kumawu Constituency became more united after the demised of Hon. Philip Basoah.

He lamented that the results of the Kumawu by-elections could be a reflection of the 2024 general polls but all depends on the governing NPP to make things right in every Constituency like they did in Kumawu with the ultimate goal of enticing Ghanaians to vote massively for the party in the impending 2024 general elections.

He made this statement in an interview on Akyem Aboabo-based Ahenkan FM’s ‘Maakye’ morning show monitored by MyGhanaMedia.com
