Honourable Kennedy Osei Nyarko, Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru Constituency in the Eastern Region, has financed a health screening exercise for over 3,000 community members in his constituency to unleash the financial burden on the Constituents in assessing health care.

Outreach Health Exercise

The initiative was carried out in a collaborative effort by the Birim South District Health Directorate and Robb Foundation with a team comprising medical doctors, laboratory technicians, physician assistants, dentists, and nurses.

The four-day community health outreach screening took place in some selected communities, including Akim Swedru, Aduasa, and Awisa, on Friday, July 28, and ended on July 31, 2023.

Services rendered included general health checks, malaria tests, eye tests and provision of spectacles, blood sugar level tests, cervical tests, prescriptions, counseling, and pharmaceutical services.

Medication was given to them to aid in the treatment of the various ailments diagnosed.

Some were also referred to the nearest health centers for further treatment.

The exercise created job opportunities for some youth temporarily in the Constituency who were tasked with working with the medical experts.

Speaking on his motivation for the climax of the exercise at Akim Swedru, he emphasized that he was committed to finding solutions to the challenges facing the health sector in the constituency, and he is hopeful the periodic screening exercise would go a long way to improving and ensuring healthy lives and promoting the well-being of all constituents.

He said the screening exercise sought to provide safe and proper healthcare services to the elderly and other vulnerable groups in these remote communities. This is what drives our keen interest in the general well-being of our community.”

According to the MP, the economic demand of the indigents as farmers is a challenge that does not allow them to access health care facilities for regular checkups; hence, there is a need for him to bring the initiative closer to the doorstep of the people.

“Health remains one of the key challenges for many people, and what matters to our neighbors is of great importance to us.”

He added that other communities would be visited later.
