Some Concerned Assembly Members of the Birim Central Municipality in the Eastern Region have invoked the RTI bill on the ongoing Akyem Oda central market reconstruction, believing that some NPP high-profile individuals in the constituency are withholding detailed documents from the assembly members and the municipal assembly as a whole.
According to concerned assembly members, those NPP high-profile individuals have employed certain local radio station workers to spread false reportage on them that a letter of inquiry written by the Akyem Aboabo Assembly Member, Hon. Appiah Kubi, asking questions about the market project’s details is intended to halt the project, which is false because such lies cannot be found in the said letter.
In a press conference held today at Akyem Oda Kia station, addressed by the Akyem Aboabo Assembly Member and Chairman of the Assembly’s Works Committee, Hon. Emmanuel Appiah-Kubi a.k.a. Amokachi, it was stated that the Akyem Oda MP-based radio station, Community FM, broadcast that he had written a letter to the Eastern Regional Minister requesting that the Akyem Oda Central Market redevelopment project be suspended.
Hon. Emmanuel Appiah-Kubi also accused Hon. Castro Adai, Oda NPP Communication Director, and Ohene Emmanuel of spreading lies and propaganda against him.
“We are here today to erase and debunk the falsehood being peddled around by Hon. Castro Adai, Oda NPP Communication Director, Ohene Emmanuel, and the Community FM station, owned by the Hon. Akwasi Acquah”, the Assembly Members said.
He denied the allegations, saying, “It is not true that I, Hon. Appiah-Kubi, have written to the Regional Minister to stop the ongoing redevelopment of the Oda central market”.
He also stated clearly that it is also not true that he wants the project to be stopped because he did not receive ten percent (10%) of the contract sum.
According to him, “I can’t do so; it is all lies and propaganda emanating from the Hon. Castro Asumadu, Hon. Ohene Emmanuel, and Community FM stations.”.
Hon. Appiah-Kubi calls for a probe into the origins of the ongoing Akyem Oda Central Market redevelopment project.
He stated that the MP’s side believes that some Assembly members do not support the current legislator, Hon. Akwasi Acquah, and hence seek to smear their image in order for them to lose the upcoming Assembly Member elections in October 2023.
Meanwhile, the Assembly member of Oda community 6 electoral area, Hon. Ohense Appau, revealed that those NPP high-profile individuals in the constituency are concealing details about the market project from them and the assembly because they believe that something is wrong with the project, which would hunt the party in the constituency should the NDC take power in the coming years, which they, as party communication, cannot defend because they have no details about the said ongoing market project.

Press Conference
Honourable members, Queen mothers of the market, members of the media fraternity, all protocols observed,
Good morning to you all.
We are here today to erase and debunk the falsehood being peddled around by Hon Castro Adumadu, Hon. Ohene Emmanuel and the Community FM station, owned by the Hon. Akwasi Acquah
*The 1992 Constitution, Article 21 (f) grants every Ghanaian the right to information regarding public sector affairs and governance in general. It is against this backdrop that Parliament passed the Right to Information ACT, 2019 (Act 989) which His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo assented to on 21st May 2019.
The RTI ACT 989 promotes transparency and accountability by empowering people to access information on central and local governments as well as non-governmental organizations which are publicly funded. In compliance with this law, a Right to Information Office, located within the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry, is operational and Mrs. Loveridge Ampratwum Okyere has been appointed as our first officer to facilitate this course.
The underlisted are falsehoods and misinformation being peddled by the Community FM station and Hon. Castro Asumadu, which I deny all their assertions:
1. It is not true that l, Hon. Appiah-Kubi has written to the Regional Minister to stop the ongoing redevelopment of the Oda central market.
2. It is not true that l have stopped the project because l did not receive ten percent(10%) of the contract sum.
3. I categorically deny the fact that l have stopped the project because there was no sod cutting.
4. It is not true that I had a meeting with the Regional Minister and ordered him to stop or halt the redevelopment of the Oda Central market. I am yet to meet the Regional Minister.
I can’t do so, it is all lies and propaganda emanating from the Hon. Castro Asumadu, Hon. Ohene Emmanuel and Community FM station.
6. In addition, the municipal assembly has not taken any decision to evacuate the traders to Nkantanum.
*Correspondent with other government agencies and departments*
1. letter to the Vice President who doubled as chairman of the police council for redevelopment of police land at SDA-Aboabo
2. letter to the minister for energy for extension of electricity and additional transformer at Aboabo.
3. A petition to the Chief Executive Officer of middle belt Authority which the Hon. Member of Parliament was copied (construction of Aboabo Town Road)
4. Through the intervention of the sub-chairman, the contractor who had not been paid was able to hand over the new El-Shaddai K.G block. etc
The following questions need to be answered
1. We still want to know the scope of the project(i.e what the project entails )
2. Why is it that among all radio stations in the municipality only Community FM is propagating falsehood? Do they have a cut in the contract?
3. Is it not true that the project is being funded by the G.O.G(common fund)?
4. Is it not true that the project is still in progress?
Thank you.
God bless you all.
