In order to provide her constituents with access to high-quality healthcare, Madam Gifty Obeyaa Asare, chief executive officer of the Ohemaa Foundation and potential New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Kade constituency, has signed up over 5,000 constituents to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
During the continuous 5-day exercise that took place from September 25 to September 29 in 2023, inhabitants of all needy, vulnerable children and ages from different localities within the constituency were able to register and renew their cards.
The potential parliamentary candidate provided all of the funding for the initiative.
STIMULATE
Madam Gifty Obeyaa Asare, often known as “Ohemaa,” explained to the Daily Searchlight and MyGhanaMedia.com that she organized the free NHIS registration because so many individuals turned to her for assistance with covering their medical expenses.
She asserted that the NHIS has helped many people get free medical care since its start, but she also noted that many inhabitants in her constituency were either not registered or were unable to renew their cards when they were due to expire.
She stated that in order to fulfill her share of the responsibility for creating a thriving society, she intended to assist the financially vulnerable, elderly, children, and those in need of assistance in enrolling in the National Health Insurance Scheme.
“This is a way for me to fulfill my share of the responsibility as a good citizen. If you look at the turnout, it indicates that many people have been unable to enroll in the scheme for years due to financial barriers, making the move critical”, she stated.
She said, “Seeing my constituents have access to healthcare from hospitals makes me happy.”
The objective of Madam Gifty Obeyaa Asare was that she would make sure that as many constituents as possible could obtain free health care without hassle.
Madam Gifty Obeyaa Asare, a hopeful NPP parliamentary candidate, begged the people to support her in order to become the first woman to hold the seat of Kade constituency MP since the seat was created and to bring forward development and social interventions for the people.
ACCLAIM
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the kind act.
“The free registration program is commendable, and what Madam Gift has accomplished is outstanding. We thank her a lot because some of us lack the funds to sign up for the program,” a grateful beneficiary said.
APPEAL
Some of the beneficiaries who reside in the Kwaebibirem municipal assembly’s villages have also urged the government to help them enroll in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), claiming that they are the ones who need it the most given their precarious financial circumstances in the villages.
Speaking with some parents, they claim that because they already struggle to provide two square meals for their families, it is very difficult for them to obtain the money to register or renew the NHIS cards for both themselves and their children.
They complain that it is annoying to show up at the hospital without an NHIS card.
They continued by saying they would be very grateful if the government could partner with organizations or philanthropists to regularly provide financial assistance to them so they could register or renew their cards in light of the hardship and financial challenges faced by the villages within the Kwaebibirem municipal assembly.
