The National Health Students Association of Ghana (NAHSAG) has called on the government to consider extending the free sanitary pads program to upper primary schools.
This appeal was made during the commemoration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day in Apenamang in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern region.
Menstrual Hygiene Education / Sanitary Pad Distribution
As part of the celebrations, NAHSAG distributed sanitary pads to schoolgirls and provided education on menstrual hygiene.
The association emphasized the importance of proper menstrual hygiene practices, including how to maintain personal hygiene during menstruation.
The Women’s Commissioner of NAHSAG, Miss Priscilla Sankofia Gyinadu, commended the government for introducing the free sanitary pads policy.

However, she urged the government to extend the program to upper primary schools, citing the need to support girls who are experiencing menstruation at a younger age.
She revealed that there are girl-child pupils who are also experiencing menstrual flow.
According to her, by extending the free sanitary pads program to upper primary schools, will ensure that more girls have access to the resources they need to manage their menstruation with dignity.
Some teachers and pupils expressed their excitement about participating in the event.
They also urged the government to consider children in smaller communities when implementing menstrual hygiene education programs.
