Bibiani-Anwhiaso-Bekwai MP Must Be Called To Order Else…… – NPP Chairman Tells NEC

Spread the love

The First Vice Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party in the Bibiani-Anwhiaso-Bekwai constituency, Mr. Anthony Twum Barimah has said that the party has collapsed due to their Member of Parliament, Hon. Alfred Obeng Boateng, claiming to have the financial resources to guarantee his re-election by the delegates in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.

He claims it is regrettable that the MP is requesting his rivals to make sufficient financial preparations if they truly wish to defeat him.

According to him, the MP’s remarks have the potential to push the NPP into opposition, and the leadership of the party shouldn’t remain silent about the behavior.

He says they need to investigate the Member of Parliament for Bibiani, who has been recorded on tape indicating that he is ready to buy votes.

He continued by saying that the party’s national and regional executives would share the blame if they went to the opposition for not summoning their member of parliament to order.

Additionally, Mr. Anthony denounced the comments made by their member of parliament, noting that the party has disassociated itself from the claims of
monetization.

He said, “This is not acceptable, this is not an appropriate message to give to delegates. Hon. Alfred Obeng Boateng spoke for himself and not the party”.

Background

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Bibiani Anhwiaso Constituency, Alfred Obeng-Boateng has made it clear that he will do everything to be re-elected in the 2024 General Election.

In his bid to win the NPP primaries before next year’s general election, the MP has indicated that he has saved money in dollars to be used to pay off delegates.

According to him, he is ready to pay double of what his competitors will pay delegates in order to achieve his aim to be reelected.

“I am telling you that the money I will use for the primaries is in dollars, and that money has been secured long ago. I must be frank with you. That is money I am not touching under any circumstances,” Alfred Obeng-Boateng said in a video that has widely been circulated on social media.

The MP for Bibiani Anhwiaso who doubles as the Chief Executive Officer of Approaches Group of Companies continued, “So I laugh seeing all that they are doing, I have dollars there for that primaries. What I can tell my delegates is that I will pay more than double what anyone who will contest me will offer them, they should take that from me. If they come together and decide to pay GH¢10,000 per delegate I will pay more than that.”

“Whatever they pay, even if they pay GH¢20,000 I will pay more than GH¢20,000 because I know how much I have put there; I know how much I have reserved. That is why I saved in dollars so that the money will not lose value.”

Mr Obeng-Boateng in a subsequent video he shared with UTV, justified his comments insisting no law bars him from saving such amounts.

According to him, he cannot allow his competitors to threaten him financially and not do the same in return.

If I say I have kept my monies in dollars, that does not mean I have kept them in the house. It only means that part of my money is in dollars and I have exchanged same and it could be at the bank or it could also be in my room and there is no offence or criminality in that. There is nothing wrong with that. I decide where I want to keep my money.
