Premier League duo Thomas Partey and Tariq Lamptey have been left out of the Black Stars 27-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Chris Hughton named his squad for the tournament on Monday, January 1, with 12 days away from the start of the tournament.
Partey has not played a competitive game since Ghana’s October friendly games against Mexico and the United States of America.
The Arsenal midfielder only returned to team training last month following his injury in October with Hughton now opting to leave him out.
Lamptey is also another player who misses out on the list due to injury.
The right-back, whose inclusion in the provisional raised questions, will now miss the continental tournament.
Fatawu Issahaku, Baba Rahman opt out of Black Stars squad for tournament
Abdul Baba Rahman and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku will not be joining the Black Stars team for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be staged in Ivory Coast.
This comes on the back of discussions between the two players and the head coach of the team, Chris Hughton, ahead of the commencement of the competition.
Fatawu Issahaku and Baba Rahman have both been in a rich vein of forms for Leicester City and PAOK this season and looked set to star for the national team in Ivory Coast.
However, the pair have decided to opt out of the competition to continue their development at their respective clubs.
Ghana Premier League Players
Three Ghana Premier League players have however been named in Hughton’s 27-man squad with Asante Kotoko’s Richmond Lamptey making the cut.
The other two are Medeama duo Hamid Abdul Fatawu and Jonathan Sowah who gained their maiden Black Stars call-ups under the Irish trainer.
