A new candidate has declared his intention to run as an independent in the December 2024 presidential elections.
The contender, identified as George Twum-Barimah-Adu, declared his intention to run as an independent against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the two major political parties.
In a video that UTV uploaded on X, the prospective independent candidate was shown being greeted by some of his supporters. These supporters were wearing polo shirts bearing his picture along with the hashtag #Breakingthe2. Other supporters were also seen cheering him.
Ahead of the 2024 general elections, George Twum-Barimah-Adu joins the list of people who have expressed their interest in vying for the presidential office as independent candidates.
The others are the former trade minister, Alan Kyerematen, with his non-partisan group, Movement for Change; and Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar, with his group, the New Force Movement.

George Twum-Barimah-Adu’s massege
Mr. George Twum-Barimah-Adu pledged to be a servant and serve the good people of Ghana with efficient and effective leadership.
He underscored the need to exhibit honesty, transparency, accountability, incorruptibility, and respect for leadership for the benefit of all Ghanaians. He stressed that using one’s position for the benefit of a small group of family and friends is unaccessible and undemocratic. He encourages leadership that focuses on today’s demands but also plans for future growth and development.
Mr. George Twum-Barimah made this known when he announced his intention to contest as an independent presidential candidate in the coming 2024 general elections at Osu Presby in Accra.
“I am of the firm belief that the time has come for us to seize our destiny, to take the bull by the horns, and to beat our own path to rapid development.”.
According to him, if Ghanaians give him the nod as President of Ghana, he will ensure that no government entity signs a contract or memorandum with any party without government review, input, and approval.
Again, it would cut down on all unnecessary public expenditure by operating within the constitutionally approved number of 19 Cabinet Ministers, with a total ministerial count of 63.
Reviewing all key government policies and programs within the first 100 days of his government with the view of re-imaging them, re-defining them, and re-purposing them to serve Ghanaians and be beneficial to the citizenry.
Instituting a cap on the value of state vehicles used by all government officials, including SOEs.
Suspend all government and SOE’s travels pending a review, unless essential travels are carefully vetted to deliver value for money.
Mr. George Adu expressed his intention to sell all non-profitable state enterprises, scrutinize public procurement, and strictly review contracts to guarantee value for money while downsizing the government as much as possible, among other measures.
He, however, pledged to institute a policy to ensure that district contracts that are not complicated and are to be executed by the government through the MMDAs are awarded to qualified youths who either live in the districts or hail from the districts, with the condition that unskilled workers who would execute the job must live in the district for at least three months.
“My government will fight the menace of galamsey without fear or favor, with the enforcement of existing laws, passing new laws where necessary, tightening loopholes in existing laws, and providing alternative livelihoods such as carbon credit harvesting and a legal industrial hemp industry to the youth in galamsey and other Ghanaians who want to venture into those areas.”.
He pointed out that, while foreign direct investment (FDI) is fashioned to attract and promote foreign investments in the country, DDI does the opposite, attracting anyone who lives in Ghana to invest their money in Ghana by creating jobs and producing products that use raw materials sourced in Ghana.
He added that businesses that qualify as DDI companies will enjoy lower tax regimes. “This is my genuine pledge to you all: to serve you in honesty and dignity, that God may be glorified, and that Ghana and Ghanaians shall be truly free and enjoy the abundant resources the Good Lord has so generously bestowed upon us.”.
