In accordance with information that MyGhanaMedia.com is privy to, Salt 95.9 FM, which is based in Agogo in the Asante Akim North District of the Ashanti Region, has reportedly shut down.

According to a notice from the NCA, the radio station was shut down for failing to renew its permit.

As a result of Salt FM’s closure by the National Communications Authority (NCA), some Agogo residents have apparently taken to the streets in protest, according to a report and a widely circulated viral video on social media.

The radio station is owned by a renowned businessman, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, who recently declared his intention to run as an independent parliamentary candidate in the Asante Akim North Constituency.

However, some residents suspect political motives behind the closure, pointing to a recent walk organized by Mr. Frimpong, which was massively patronized.

There are also allegations that a member of the ruling government, who is reportedly establishing a rival radio station, may have influenced the NCA’s decision.

On Tuesday (February 6, 2023)  afternoon, many people in Agogo gathered at the frontage of the radio station to inquire about what was happening.

Some youth wearing red armbands danced to brass band music at the frontage of the radio station.
