Dear Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, jr.
We respectfully script to express our dismay and disquiet on your article on 29th February 2024 published by Modernghana.com on the topic “There has Always Been Factional Conflicts in NPP”
On this important subject matter above, you responded to this statement made by the veteran Journalist, Kwame Sefa Kayi “See Osei Owusu isn’t a small Boy; ( His press conference Reaction Shows There is conflict in NPP”) published by Modernghana.com on February 22, 2024.
Undoubtedly, this purported statement has a direct link to the resignation of Former Majority Leader Hon Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and some matters arising thereafter.
Indeed, we believe you have the liberty to add your voice to issues confronting our democratic values and principles but it’s obvious that you have allowed your emotions to take over your objective views, especially on two major issues raised in your publication.
The New Patriotic Party, NPP has demonstrated a unique and deep sense of involvement irrespective of one’s Religion, Gender, and Ethnic background. The party again has championed a cause geared towards shaping the frontiers of our democratic core values i.e. free speech, and fair and equal opportunities for all who believed in the ideologies of the Party.
Firstly, you used certain unprintable, derogatory, and humiliating remarks on the astute politician, the respected Former Majority Leader Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu which we deemed as misguided thoughts and lacks candor and truth.
Indeed, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s contributions and commitment to the New Patriotic Party, NPP can’t be underestimated or soiled because he has stood for the party through its struggle and time for success. He remained loyal to the dictates of the Party and has never reneged on his duties since he started the party’s works to date.
In all honesty, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has been through the mill and understands all the nitty gritty of politics having served diligently for the party in different positions with his image intact.
We as a group called “United Behind Osei Kyei- Mensah-Bonsu in the Northern Region of Ghana are shocked to the marrow by the discriminatory release from you who should have known better per your academic credentials.
However, we want to state without mincing words your wrong posture to tag the Former Majority Leader as a bad person who has spent his entire life fighting and mentoring the young for the growth and development of NPP in the Ashanti Region and beyond.
Unfortunately, you erroneously accused Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu of being behind the purported struggle of NPP in Parliament and with the blink of an eye tried to paint him black as the man behind the selection of Rt Hon. Alban Sumana Bagbin as speaker of Parliament for the 8th Parliament of Ghana. This assertion can’t withstand the test of time with the facts available.
Fast forward, the New Patriotic Party NPP lost the majority of its seats in Parliament during the 2020 Parliamentary elections. Therefore, your weak and precarious tactics of trying so hard to link Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu to this are incomprehensible.
The party before the selection of the speaker of Parliament due to lack of a clear majority couldn’t be attributed to Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu because of what transpired within the party before the selection of the speaker.
It would be unwise for someone like you who should know better but has failed woefully to stick to facts due to your own selfish and self-seeking interest ignorantly lay the blame at the doorstep of the Former Majority Leader of Parliament with unsubstantiated allegations.
Interestingly, the party’s leadership in Parliament under Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu despite the lack of numbers has steered the affairs of government business through sharp-witted leadership acumen demonstrated for the past three years since both political parties have the same number of lawmakers in the August of house Parliament with one advantage for the NPP.
Frankly, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s resilience and tenacity in the management of the majority caucus in Parliament has earned him much respect mainly for his ability to deal with and convince the minority caucus in coming to various consensus building due to the lack of a clear majority.
With all due respect, your unguided and distasteful thoughts on Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stem from your open biased, and selective nature of trying to give the dog a bad name and hang it which many loyal party patriots hold him in high esteem for the display of maturity and honesty.
Additionally, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is not only recognized in Ghana alone but his unparalleled leadership of the mastery of Parliamentary works has been celebrated across Africa and the world at large. He became the first Secretary to the minority caucus in his first term in Parliament.
It’s quite unfortunate and disturbing for you to malign and use all these inappropriate words on the revered Former leader of the majority group in Parliament watching closely his distinguished character and long-standing commitment to the party both in opposition and in power.
On the second matter, you again tried to play smart on the minds of Ghanaians by accusing President Nana Addo of “being strategical and politically opportunistic” by adding the name of the late Mr. S.D Dombo, the leader of the Northern People’s Party to the party long-held tradition of “Dankwa-Busia Dombo.”
We are categorically opposed to your above divisive thought on the President’s inclusion of the late respected leader of the Northern People’s Party who played a pivotal role in what we called the New Patriotic Party, NPP. This kind of thinking can inflame passion and further create tension within the rank and file of the Party, NPP.
Finally, we the leadership of “United Behind Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu” are very clear in our minds that you have an agenda to break the front of the Party going forward, and we therefore call on you to render an unqualified apology to the Former Majority Leader Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and others maligned in your article.
Thank you.
Signed
The leadership of United Behind Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Northern Region.
