The New Patriotic Party National Council of Elders member, Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, has urged his party to let the outcomes of the just-concluded Ejisu by-election serve as a wake-up call for them in advance of the pivotal general elections on December 7.
On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, as our devoted readers have observed, legal counsel Kwabena Boateng emerged victorious in the Ejisu Constituency Parliamentary by-election via the ruling party’s bid with 27,782 votes, representing 55.8%. His most prominent opponent, Hon. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a former member of the NPP who also ran as an independent, obtained 21,537 votes, also representing 43.3%.
However, the party’s national chairman, Hon. Stephen Ayensu Ntim, believes that the changing course of phenomena in the constituency demonstrated the extreme levels of discord and apathy within the NPP family.
He says that he is not pleased with the outcome and that he will work hard to get Owusu Aduomi back into the NPP.

Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, a former Minister of Education and Minister for Ports, Harbours, and Railways, commented on Mr. Ntim’s remarks by praising the party chairman for vowing to reinstate Owusu Aduomi, the three-term MP for Ejisu, to the ruling party.
Prof. Ameyaw Akumfi, who is also the board chairman of the Public Procurement Authority of Ghana (PPA), stated he wholeheartedly endorses the National Chairman’s appeal for the necessity of reconciliation in an interview with ASTA FM’s Nana Kwadwo Adu in Techiman.
He stated that whenever there may be internal party disputes, reconciliation should take place not just in the Ejisu Constituency but throughout the entire constituency.

Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi went on to say that even if the timing of the endeavour might not make it simple, it will be worthwhile to make amends and enlist everyone’s support before things get out of control.
He emphasized that “the writing is on the wall; the NPP needs to be united or perish,” saying that what indicates is the unwillingness of some NPP members to put aside their egos and accept compromise.
