To promote unity and well-being in the lead-up to the 2024 general election, the members and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akim Swedru constituency of the Eastern Region held a health walk.
At the unification health walk set up by Mr. Kennedy Osei Nyarko, the sitting member of parliament for the aforementioned constituency and the ruling party’s parliamentary candidate, hundreds of electors from the constituency, the leadership in the region, the constituency, and several political appointees stroll through some of Akim Swedru’s principal streets, clad in party paraphernalia and demonstrating their support for the NPP.
Notwithstanding their defeat in the Akim Swedru NPP parliamentary primaries, businessman Mr. Jerome Kwame Akodor and former Controller and Accountant General of Ghana, Mr. Kwasi Kwaning Bosompem, joined the unity walk.
Notable party stalwarts who joined the walk included Mr. Jeff Konadu Addo, the Eastern Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Evans Osei Yeboah, the Eastern Regional Party’s communications director, Mr. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, the member of parliament for the Akim Oda constituency and the Deputy Minister of Health, and Mr. Kwame Asare-Danso, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Birim South.
Reuniting For Victory
The various speakers who took turns to address the supporters reiterated the need to foster unity to solidify the party’s prospects in the general election in 2024.
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Eastern Regional Chairman, Mr. Jeff Konadu Addo, declared that in light of the NPP government’s excellent performance, the people in the region will undoubtedly repay the party by casting large numbers of ballots in favour of their flagbearer, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia.
In the words of Mr. Jeff Konadu Addo, the people of the Eastern region would repay the ruling party in the 2024 elections by giving them another chance to lead Ghana to the promised land because of the enormous amount of work that the NPP government has accomplished in the region.
He noted that since the walk is a part of their political party’s bigger effort to engage constituents and secure votes for the presidential and parliamentary candidates in the upcoming elections, every member of the party needs to be active in the campaign.
The NPP party faithful, he said, should band together and work tirelessly to support the party’s flag bearer, Dr. Bawumia, so that he can win the Eastern Region handily and carry on President Akufo Addo’s excellent work, even though it is obvious that the region is a “no go area” for the NDC party.
In an interview with Daily Searchlight, former controller and accountant general of Ghana, Mr. Kwasi Kwaning Bosompem and Mr. Jerome Kwame Akodor, who lost the NPP primaries in the Akyem Swedru constituency, respectively, said that the party’s fortunes would improve if the supporters could put their differences aside and work together.
As a result, they demanded cooperation in order to handily win the constituency for both Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, the flag bearer, and Hon. Kennedy Osei Nyarko, their parliamentary candidate. They pledged to support the party underscoring a unified front aimed at retaining power in December 2024.
The large turnout for the health walk, according to Hon. Kennedy Osei Nyarko, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the 2024 election and member of parliament for the Akyem Swedru constituency, indicated that the party had a better chance of defeating the National Democratic Congress (NDC) comfortably in both the constituency’s parliamentary and presidential elections.
Whilst he was hopeful the numbers would translate into unity in the constituency, he urged the supporters especially the youth to put the division behind them and work in unison for victory in 2024.
He pleaded with the constituents to vote massively for him and the NPP for the continuation of the current government’s developmental agenda in the area.
According to him, the Akim Swedru constituency has over the years benefited immensely from the current President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led administration than many constituencies in the country.
He noted that the current NPP administration has performed better than the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under Mahama, Atta Mills, and Jerry Rawlings and thus called on Ghanaians to vote and retain the party in power to help secure more developmental initiatives for the constituency.
He urged all party members, including constituency executives, ward executives, and sympathizers, to intensify their efforts in door-to-door campaigns to garner support for the NPP.
Dominic Fobi, the chairman of the constituency, also urged Ghanaians to vote for the NPP party on December 7 to carry out its initial growth initiatives and advance the nation.
He appealed to the supporters to not dwell on past grudges, forgive one another, and work towards the best interests of the New Patriotic Party.
