The National Executive Officers (NEO) of the National Health Students Association of Ghana (NAHSAG), led by H.E. Ernest Agyare (Obama), on Saturday, 6th July, organized a mega health Students Conference and General Assembly meeting at the University of Cape Coast’s SMS auditorium.

The event, which was organized under the theme “Uniting in Purpose: For a Robust Healthcare Delivery System,” saw the attendance of some high-profile dignitaries from the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), some Members of Parliament, Deans and Provosts of some health colleges and universities, as well as various student leaders from across the length and breadth of the country.

Addressing the conference, the President of the association reiterated the need for interprofessional unity and proposed a common regulatory agency for all health professions in the country, with special boards established to oversee the various professions. He also urged the government to post all unemployed health graduates within the country as a matter of urgency.

The representative from the Ministry of Health, in his remarks, stated that all unemployed licensed health workers will be posted soon, as the ministry is working to secure financial clearance for that.

The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Hon. Dr. Kwamena Mintah Nyarku, encouraged the students and fresh graduates present to empathize with their patients and treat everyone equally, regardless of the individual’s religious, political, or socio-economic background.

Dr. Agnes A. Anane, the Central Regional Director of Health, congratulated the leadership of the association for putting up such a vital gathering. She urged the fresh graduates to accept postings to rural areas when posted.

The event, chaired by Professor Martins Ekow, was deemed successful and one-of-a-kind. The conference was followed by a General Assembly meeting.
