The First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency, Hon. John Kwame Duodu also known as Sir John, has called on party parliamentary aspirants to intensify their efforts to secure a majority in Parliament by 2025.
In his statement, Mr. Duodu, who also serves as the National Deputy Organizer of the Friends of Bawumia 2008 Foundation (FoB-’08) and the Ashanti Regional TESCON Patron, emphasized the importance of strong campaigning, particularly in the party’s strongholds.
“Every member of our great Elephant family needs not be reminded of the parliamentary seats we lost in the 2020 Parliamentary election as we prepare for the 2024 elections,” said Mr. Duodu. “I humbly implore our dedicated and tireless Parliamentary Candidates to lead our campaigns across the country, especially in our strongholds, to up their game.”
The NPP lost over 35 seats to the opposition NDC in the 2020 elections, which led to a challenging governance situation for President Akuffo Addo’s second term, as the party had a slim majority in Parliament and a Speaker from the opposition.
“As we work towards breaking the eight, we cannot afford another scenario like the one in January 2021 when His Excellency Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia is sworn into office as president come January 7, 2025. We must ensure we win a clear majority in both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections,” Mr. Duodu added.
He urged parliamentary candidates in strongholds to work tirelessly to secure their seats and ensure a resounding victory for Dr. Bawumia and his running mate, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh.
“Serving in Parliament as a member of the ruling party is more advantageous than being an opposition MP. Having a clear majority of Parliamentarians will allow the President to make decisions and formulate policies more flexibly,” he noted.
Mr. Duodu also reminded party members of the “struggles” under the late Prof. John Evans Atta Mills and John Mahama from 2008 to 2017 and stressed the importance of achieving victory in both parliamentary and presidential elections on December 7.
“This is a national call to action for all NPP members and our hardworking Parliamentary Candidates. Victory is possible through hard work and empowering the grassroots. The 2024 election is critical for the NPP; we must win a clear majority of Parliamentary seats and also ensure a decisive presidential victory,” he concluded.

We Cannot Afford To Repeat Our Performance in the 2020 Parliamentary Election —Sir John Admonishes NPP Parliamentary Candidates
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency First Vice Chairman for the good people of Atwima Nwabiagya South in the Ashanti Region, John Kwame Duodu (SIR JOHN), who also serves as the National Deputy Organizer of the Friends of Bawumia 2008 Foundation (FoB-’08), the Ashanti Regional TESCON Patron, advises NPP Parliamentary Candidates to work hard in order to win a majority in parliament by 2025.
As a wise saying goes “once bitten, twice shy”, every member of our great Elephant family needs not be reminded of the parliamentary sea ts we lost in the 2020 Parliamentary election as we frantically prepare towards the 2024 elections. I therefore deem it fit to humbly implore our dedicated and tireless Parliamentary Candidates who are supposed to lead our campaigns in all Constituences across the country, particularly in our most strong holds to up their game.
The political upheaval that hit our parliamentarians in the 2020 elections, when the NPP lost over 35 seats to the opposition NDC, made governance in President Akuffo Addo’s second term difficult, especially as we had a Speaker of Parliament from the opposition party due to the slim majority we had in Parliament.
As we work assiduously towards breaking the eight, we cannot afford another scenario of the kind we had in January 2021 when His Excellency Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia is sworn into office as president come 7th January 2025. We must ensure we win a clear majority in both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
It is therefore very essential that our Parliamentary Candidates in our strongholds work tirelessly to win their seats and also ensure a resounding victory for Dr. Bawumia and his running mate, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh. I need not remind us that serving in Parliament as a member of the ruling party is more advantageous than being an opposition MP. Also, having a clear majority of Parliamentarians will allow the President to make decisions and formulate policies more flexibly.
Let us remind ourselves again and again of the struggles our NPP strongholds went through between 2008 to 2017 under the late Prof. Mills and John Mahama and strive for victory in both the parliamentary and presidential elections come December 7 to help sustain our Party’s achievements.
This is a national call to action for all NPP members and our hardworking Parliamentary Candidates. Victory is possible through hard work and empowering the grassroots to get to work sooner than later. The 2024 election is critical for the NPP; we must win a clear majority of Parliamentary seats and also give to our people the gift of a decisive presidential victory. We must leave no room for complacency and avoid any possibility of a runoff going into elections 2024. Let us work together towards a resounding victory. Our achievements speak for themselves and the winnable DMB-NAPO team is our sure bet to take us to the promised land.
It is possible!!!
