Volta Sports Crusaders to Stage “Evaglomi” Demonstration Over Incomplete Youth Resource Center

The Volta Sports Crusaders, a media-driven advocacy group for sports in the region, have announced plans for a demonstration on August 9, 2024, named the “Evaglomi” demonstration.

The event aims to express their frustration over the unfinished state of the Youth Resource Center in Ho. In an appearance on the Global Morning Show, the group’s leaders clarified that their protest is not politically motivated, despite allegations to the contrary.

They criticized the $2.3 billion facility, which was initially inaugurated by the government but remains incomplete and abandoned.

The center, which was used partially during Ghana’s 65th independence anniversary, now stands neglected. The Crusaders argue that the youth in the Volta region are being overlooked in terms of sports facilities, referencing the government’s performance tracker as evidence.

Attempts to get a response from Pious Hadzide, project coordinator for the National Youth Authority (NYA), were met with frustration as he dismissed the group’s concerns with the remark, “Do you guys think the money is in my pocket?”

The group is calling on the public to participate by wearing red or black attire and marching through Ho’s principal street to the Regional Administration, where they will present their petition to Dr. Achibad Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister.

Participants are advised against wearing any political party shirts or souvenirs.
