Vice Presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang says the next NDC government will put structures and policies together to ensure that illegal mining popularly known as galamsey does not destroy river bodies and other water sources like in other countries.

While on a campaign tour in the Western Region of Ghana, Professor Naana Opoku Agyemang, the running mate of the opposition party, and Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, strengthened the positive outlook they had in mind for the populace, particularly the undocumented miners known as “Galamsey.”

On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, this message of hope was presented at a durbar consisting of prominent figures from the Nkakaa (Amenfi Central) Constituency community, including chiefs, lawmakers, students, members of the youth and women’s wings, traders, miners, and other stakeholders.

Professor Naana Opoku Agyemang, said, unlike the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government that has overseen the destruction of many water bodies as a result of illegal mining, the NDC will instead modify the trade to ensure that jobs are created for the youth in the hinterland.

The NDC Vice Presidential candidate also touted the achievement of the NDC in terms of health infrastructure adding that no government has been able to do that.

According to her, the next government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is dedicated to promoting responsible mining and ensuring that those involved in illegal and irresponsible mining comply with regulations in the sector.
“We intend to implement training programs for illegal miners to enable them to operate without damaging our rivers and forests. Understanding that mining is a vital part of our economy, we believe it is essential for anyone entering this field to receive proper training for responsible practices. We also recognize the urgent need for job creation among our youth, which is why we are proposing a 24-Hour Economy under the next NDC administration.”

She continued by saying that the Big Push and the Women’s Development Bank sought to provide Ghanaians with employment possibilities and financial empowerment, respectively.

She exhorts voters to back the NDC and cast ballots for Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, and Mr. John Dramani Mahama, our presidential candidate. in addition to each and every one of our candidates for parliament in the next general elections. Voting for Mr. Mahama and the NDC is an opportunity to reset our country and a vote against hunger, poverty, and corruption.
