The Member of Parliament(MP) for the Jomoro constituency, Dorcas Affo-Toffey has denied allegations of extorting money from some constituents under the pretext of facilitating their participation in a commonwealth programme.
In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Madam Affo-Toffey admitted to introducing some youth to the program, emphasizing that it was genuine, although she did not provide many details.
The lawmaker explained that she did not deal with any constituents on a personal level, stating that she did not collect money from anyone. She expressed confidence that if she had taken money from anyone, she would have been arrested by now and in custody.
“It was a program going on that was advertised. People told me about it, and I took an interest in it because my people were suffering and could take advantage of it,” she said.
“I have stayed abroad; at least I have my own cars and a place to sleep, so I don’t need to extort money from anyone for any reason,” she stated.
Madam Affo-Toffey accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of sabotaging the program, despite the fact that some of their members would have benefited.
“I was accused of causing visa traffic. They tried everything possible to sabotage and destroy it, so the program was suspended. I directed the interested participants to the appropriate quarters, but I didn’t take money from anyone.”
“But my opponents decided to resort to propaganda but I am not afraid and it doesn’t matter because I made sure the organisers refunded the monies after the suspension and I personally refunded monies of some people,” she said.
