The President of the YALI Alumni Association of Ghana (YAAG), Mr. Abdul Latif Rufai, has advised parents to refrain from choosing careers for their children but rather allow them to choose what they want to do in the future and guide them in pursuing it.
The President of the YALI Alumni Association of Ghana (YAAG), Mr. Abdul Latif Rufai, suggests that parents should rather guide their children in pursuing their passions instead of choosing an occupational field for them.
Mr. Rufai made these remarks during the inauguration of the YAAG chapter at Akyem Oda Senior High School (ODASCO) in the Birim Central Municipality of Eastern region.
The YAAG President also cautioned parents on the consequences of choosing careers for their children, stating that it can lead to dissatisfaction and disinterest if the child is not passionate about the chosen career.
Additionally, he calls on high school administrators to set up mentorship or career guidance offices so that students may go there and get career-related assistance.
The Association also launched its Legacy project emphasizing the importance of career guidance, mentorship, ethical leadership, community service, and entrepreneurship as students were encouraged to maintain a decent lifestyle, both in school and at home.
The Chairperson of the YAAG’s ODASCO Chapter Committee, Madam Victoria Pokuah, expressed gratitude for the legacy project, which she believes will greatly benefit the students.
Some students of ODASCO also showed appreciation for the initiative, thanking the YAAG for introducing the legacy project, which they believe will help them make informed career choices and develop valuable skills.
