The One Ghana Movement has strongly condemned the wave of violence, vandalism, and looting that erupted in parts of Ghana, including Damongo, Awutu Senya, Nsawam, Tamale, Techiman South, and Accra, following the conclusion of the presidential election.

In a statement signed by its Director, Senyo Hosi described the incidents as a threat to national peace, stability, and unity, and called on all citizens to uphold the democratic values that underpin Ghana’s political framework.

“The post-election violence undermines the values of democracy, justice, and the rule of law that Ghanaians have collectively worked so hard to uphold. The One Ghana Movement urges all citizens to remember that elections are not just a competition of ideas and policies but also a reflection of our shared commitment to a peaceful and united Ghana. Violence and destruction are antithetical to this vision,” potions of the statement noted.

They also acknowledged the peaceful concession by the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), emphasising the importance of consolidating democratic practices.

The Movement urged President-elect John Dramani Mahama to take swift and decisive action to quell the unrest by publicly condemning the violence perpetrated in his name, appealing to all citizens to cease acts of violence, vandalism, and lawlessness and assure the public that security agencies will hold perpetrators accountable, regardless of their political affiliations.

Additionally, the Movement called on outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to direct the Ghana Police Service to act impartially and restore order in affected communities.

The One Ghana Movement further reaffirmed its commitment to fostering peace, unity, and national development noting “As a nation, we have faced and overcome challenges before. Together, we can navigate these trying times and emerge even stronger.”

The Movement urged Ghanaians to reject division and hatred, instead embracing the spirit of togetherness that defines the nation.
