The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Nkawkaw Constituency has strongly condemned the recent divisive agenda propagated by certain individuals who prioritize ethnicity over development in the appointment of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). This stance is deeply concerning, especially in the 21st century when Ghana faces significant economic challenges.
According to the NDC, some individuals posing as members of the NDC and NPP have conspired to issue a statement to the President, falsely claiming that a highly competent candidate is not a native of Kwahu, thereby seeking to disqualify him based on ethnicity. The NDC describes this move as misguided and baseless, emphasizing that leadership should be based on merit, vision, and the ability to deliver, rather than shallow ethnic considerations.
The NDC notes that Nkawkaw has long struggled with economic stagnation, unemployment, poor infrastructure, and underdevelopment. The party argues that prioritizing ethnicity over competence would only exacerbate these issues. Instead, the NDC advocates for capable leadership that can transform Nkawkaw into an economic hub.
The party’s Youth Leader, Awal Halidu, has appealed to the Regional and National Executives to reject any calls for appointments based on ethnicity.
He emphasizes that it is a development-oriented party that prioritizes competence and nation-building over parochial interests.
In conclusion, he stated that the NDC in Nkawkaw Constituency remains resolute in its pursuit of a prosperous Nkawkaw where leadership is based on competence and vision, not tribal identity. The party calls on all well-meaning Ghanaians to stand firm against this backward tribalistic agenda and rally behind the cause of true development.

DEVELOPMENT OVER TRIBALISM – NKAWKAW CONSTITUENCY NEEDS COMPETENCE, NOT ETHNICITY
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Nkawkaw Constituency strongly condemns the recent divisive and retrogressive agenda propagated by certain individuals who seek to prioritize ethnicity over development in the appointment of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). We find it deeply appalling that in the 21st century when Ghana faces significant economic challenges some individuals have chosen to engage in primitive, tribalistic rhetoric rather than advocate for competence and development.
It has come to our attention that some elements within Nkawkaw Constituency who pose as Members of NDC and NPP where their status are not clearly defined but are justified as enemies of Kwahu Progress and Development have conspired to issue a statement to the President, falsely asserting that a highly competent and deserving candidate is not a native of Kwahu, thereby seeking to disqualify him based on ethnicity. This is a misguided and baseless move that must be rejected in the strongest terms. Leadership
must be based on merit, vision, and the ability to deliver not on shallow ethnic considerations.
Nkawkaw has long struggled with economic stagnation, unemployment, poor infrastructure, and underdevelopment. The fundamental question remains: Should we continue down this path of economic deprivation by prioritizing ethnicity over competence? The answer is a resounding NO! We must rise above such regressive mindsets and push for progress. As the renowned political scientist Samuel P.
Huntington noted, “The most important political distinction among countries concerns not their form of government but their degree of government.” We need capable leadership, not ethnicity-based selections, to transform Nkawkaw into an economic hub.
History has repeatedly shown that ethnic favoritism has done more harm than good. Some of the most monumental failures in Kwahu’s development have come from those who were chosen purely on the basis of being natives, rather than being competent. The decline in critical infrastructure, lack of employment opportunities, and economic hardship can be attributed to poor leadership, not the ethnicity of leaders. Kwame Nkrumah himself once declared, “We face neither East nor West; we face forward.”
Let us face forward with development and competence rather than backward with ethnic divisions. It is worth noting that those captured in the viral video advocating for this baseless ethnic discrimination are, for the most part, unemployed individuals with little to no contribution to the economic and social growth of Nkawkaw. Instead of wasting time on divisive press conferences, would it not be better for a competent leader to be appointed to create opportunities that could lift these very individuals out of joblessness? It is disheartening to see people who would benefit from good governance rather choose to support such retrogressive narratives
As the Youth Leader of the NDC in Nkawkaw, I am making an urgent appeal to the Regional and National Executives to reject outright any calls for appointments based on ethnicity. The NDC is not a tribal congress; it is a development-oriented party that prioritizes competence and nation-building over parochial interests. We demand that only the most capable, visionary, and hardworking individuals be considered for leadership positions.
We must echo the words of Nelson Mandela: “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love.” It is time for us to unlearn ethnic bias and prioritize development.
The actions of those who seek to divide Nkawkaw along ethnic lines are not only disgraceful but also an affront to the progress of our constituency. We must render their press conferences irrelevant by countering them with facts, logic, and a commitment to progress. We call on all well-meaning Ghanaians, especially the youth of Nkawkaw, to stand firm against this backward tribalistic agenda and rally behind the cause of true development. Ghana, and indeed Nkawkaw, deserves better.
We remain resolute in our pursuit of a prosperous Nkawkaw where leadership is based on competence and vision, not tribal identity. The time for change is now!
Yours in service
Signed,
Awal Halidu
