President Akufo-Addo Donates GHC100,000 To Support Appiatse Explosion Fund

The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has donated GHC 100,000 to the Appiatse explosion support fund set up by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to assist the affected persons in the community.

 

 

 

Akufo-Addo made the donation to the fund after interacting with the five-member committee constituted by the Land and Natural Resources Minister to steer the affairs of the fund when they paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House.

 

The president becomes the first citizen to donate towards the fund created for the affected families of Appiatse.

Rebuilding Appiatse

In his engagement with the committee, the President noted that it was gratifying to know the kind of people who have accepted to be members of the body.

President Akufo-Addo urged them to make the rebuilding of the Appiatse community their topmost priority.

In rebuilding the community, the President urged all those who are going to be involved, to consider making same a new model that will serve as a reference point for the building of future communities.

 

“This project has to succeed and as always, it has to begin with the money. If there is no money you cannot move on,” Akufo-Addo said.

“I want to wish you the very best of luck and yes Madam, I my widow’s might, I have GHc 100,000.00 that I am donating to the fund” the President added.

High enthusiasm

The chairperson of the committee for the Appiatse explosion support fund, Rev Dr Joyce Aryee, in her remarks says the committee has started work and is hopeful that by close of business Friday the 28 of January 2022, they will be ready to announce to the general public, the avenues that will be available to receive their contributions.

“The level of enthusiasm to give is quite high. I have personally had many calls, people finding out how they can contribute. We are convinced that we will be able to raise sufficient funds for the many projects,” Rev Dr Joyce Aryee said.

 

 

 

Committee members

The five member committee is chaired by Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee, a former Minister of State under H.E. Jerry John Rawlings and former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines.

The other members of the Committee are Tetrete Okuamoah Sakyi II, Omanhene of Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area, Mr. Philip Owiredu, the Managing Director of Cal Bank, Dr. Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko, Executive Director of the Danquah Institute (DI) and Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana and Research Fellow at the Centre for Social Policy Studies, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Mr. Sulemanu Koney.
