Display Of Ghana Flag On Burj Khalifa Was Free – GIPC

The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has debunked claims suggesting that the projection of the Ghana flag on the tallest building in the world, known as Burj Khalifa, came at a huge cost to Ghana.

The Ghana flag was lit up in its bright colours during the 2020 Dubai Expo, where the government hoped to make a good case for investments in the Ghanaian economy, with the iconic figure being an integral part of that process.

Social media commentaries claimed Ghana had to pay to get its flag displayed on the edifice.

However, a GIPC statement on Friday (11 March) said that “in no uncertain terms, the owner of Emaar Properties, Dubai decided to place our national flag on the Burj Khalifa for free as a gesture of goodwill and to honour Ghana and His Excellency, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, during the Ghana Day Celebration to culminate our participation in the Dubai Expo.”
