The Ghana TVET Service has said teaching and non-teaching staff of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the country are not part of a strike declared by some teacher unions.

“Teaching and non-teaching staff of the Ghana TVET are not part of the declared strike action and continue to remain at the post to provide quality skills and training to Ghanaian child,” a statement from the Ghana TVET Service said.

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCTG), and the Teachers and Educational Workers Union(TEWU) are among the teacher unions that have declared an indefinite strike.

They said the government failed to meet a 30 June deadline they had set for paying their members a cost of living allowance.

The teachers are fighting for the payment of between 20% and 30% of their gross salary by way of a new allowance.

They said the COLA will cushion them against current economic conditions and teachers’ worsening standard of living.
