The Association of Passengers has said it expected the reduction in transport fares to go beyond the current 15.3 per cent that has been agreed on by transport operators.

According to the association, since fuel prices continue to fall daily, the transport operators should have reduced fares further.

Despite not being satisfied with the reduction in transport fares, the association commended the “Parliament Select Committee on Roads and Transport, the Ministry of Transport, Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), and Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) and all other stakeholders for heeding to our call and working for the interest of commuters.”

It called on drivers to ensure the implementation of the reduction in transport fares across the country, as it will be “monitoring the implementation of the 15.3 per cent reduction in fares.”

It also urged commuters to be “mindful of the new fares and ensure that drivers do not cheat them.”

FOR A IMMEDIATE RELEASE.
ASSOCIATION OF PASSENGER GHANA WELCOMES 15.3% REDUCTION IN TRANSPORT FARES
We the Association of Passengers Ghana has taken notice of the statement by the Road Transport Operators announcing 15.3% reduction in transport fares effective today Monday 19th December, 2022.
As an Association we expected the reduction to be more than the 15.3% given the continuous fall in fuel prices and further reduction in fuel prices last Friday.
Even though we are not satisfied with the percentage of reduction in fares we want to commend the Parliament Select Committee on Roads and Transport, The Ministry of Transport, Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) and all other stakeholders for heeding to our call and working for the interest of commuters.
As an Association we have witnessed that over the years some drivers and passengers and driver mates have had altercations sometimes leading to fights over transport fares.
The Association will be monitoring the implementation of the new transport fares across the country and therefore call on drivers to ensure the 15.3 % reduction in fares.
We also urge commuters to be mindful of the new fares and ensure that drivers do not cheat them.
APG wish to express our gratitude to all media houses in Ghana for given us their platforms to push agenda.
Long Live APG!! Long Live Ghana!!
Thank you.
Signed …………………..
Afia Kwarteng Asamani.
