Court Orders 11 Property Owners To Relocate From Their Buildings Situated On Waterways At Techiman.

The Tuobodom District court in the Bono East region presided by Justice Frimpong Manso, has ordered 11 property owners to move out of their buildings located on waterways.

The properties, mostly houses, are situated at Twimia, a suburb of Techiman, were built waterways which prevented free flow of water during rainy seasons, thereby causing heavy flooding in the area.

A period of two months was given to the property owners to relocate to a different accommodation, where the buildings would be later demolish to save lives and other properties in the area.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Techiman Municipality had filed a suit at the court seeking an order to demolish houses located on flood prone vicinities within the jurisdiction.

Mr Eric Asiedu, the Techiman Municipal Director of NADMO, in an interview with Journalists after the ruling, said the suit was not meant to destroy residents properties but to avert future disaster which could cause human lives.

He noted that the area had experienced perennial flooding which caused serious damage to properties, thus the need to take pragmatic decisions to prevent further occurrences in the municipality.

The Municipal Director solicited the support of religious organisations, media houses, traditional authorities and the general public to partner NADMO in the municipality in the fight against building in unlawful locations.

Mr Asiedu stressed that his outfit was mandated to protect lives and properties from possible disaster in the country devoid of fear, discrimination and favour saying that “we shall work tirelessly in 2023”.
