Regina Abanga, a Secretary working at the Ministry of Energy, has been brought before the Circuit Court in Accra and charged with 116 counts of theft amounting to a total of GHc287,775.47.
Abanga, aged 44, allegedly manipulated an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) belonging to the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) and managed to steal funds from the account of the bank’s Unit Head.
She has entered a plea of not guilty for all 116 counts of theft and has been granted bail in the sum of GHc250k. Alongside the bail amount, the presiding judge, Her Honour Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie, stipulated that she must provide three sureties, with one of them being able to justify possessing a landed property worth GHC125k.
Furthermore, Abanga is required to make weekly visits to the police station every Wednesday until further notice. The court has adjourned the case to September 5.
According to the summary presented by DSP Evans Kesse, the complainant, Irene Aka Antwi, is an employee at the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) Head Office. Antwi holds the position of Unit Head Officer in charge of E-Business Operations at the bank. On the other hand, the accused, Regina Abanga, holds the position of Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, situated in Ministries-Accra.
