NPP Presidential Primaries: Sir John Sends Congratulatory Message To The Five Aspirants Who Made It To The Final List

The First Vice Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency, Hon. John Kwame Duodu, popularly called ‘Sir John’, has extended heartfelt congratulations to the five Flagbearer candidates who made it to the final list in the recently concluded Super-Delegates Conference of the NPP which was held to reduce the field of flagbearer candidates from ten (10) to five (5).

According to him, the overwhelming victory of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President is an unquestionable endorsement from the delegates and gives a clear indication of what is to be expected at the National Delegates Conference come November 4.

 

 

 

‘Dr. Bawumia deserves special appreciation for this accomplishment because it significantly demonstrates the delegates’ trust in him, Sir John added.

The Ashanti Regional TESCON Patron asserted further that the success of the Conference was victory for the entire Party.

 

He therefore commended the other candidates who were not able to finish in the top five (5) for putting themselves up to lead the party into the 2024 elections .

 

Sir John therefore implored all party members to stay united and focused on the main agenda of breaking the eight.

 

“it is our responsibility as the NPP’s unified body to make sure that whoever is chosen to represent the party ahead of the general elections next year has the necessary backing. In the end, we must all work together to shatter the eight (8) year barrier”, he stated

 

 Background

On Saturday, August 26 2023, the NPP held a super delegates conference to reduce its flagbearer hopefuls from 10 to five.

At the end of the polls, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia won the super delegates confer­ence with a total of 629 votes, representing 68.15 per cent of the vote.

Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament (MP) of Assin Central, emerged second with 132 votes representing 14.3 per cent while former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, came third with 95 votes representing 10.2 per cent.

Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, for­mer Minister of Food and Agricul­ture, placed fourth with 36 votes representing 3.90 per cent.

The party’s Election Committee announced a run-off election to determine the positions of Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai-Nimoh after both contestants polled nine.
