Unilaterally Adding Our Logo To #OccupyBoG Demo ‘disrespectful’; Remove It Now Else…… – PNC Warns Organisers

The People’s National Convention (PNC) has dissociated itself from the intended #OccupyBoG demonstration being planned and led by the minority caucus in parliament.

In a statement signed by General Secretary Janet Nabla, the PNC said its “attention has been drawn to a flyer with the party’s logo trending on social media” it would participate in the OccupyBoG demonstration.

The party has, thus, issued “a stern warning to the organisers of the protest” against using its logo on the flyer advertising the protest march.

The PNC has also demanded that the organisers of the march “remove the party’s name immediately from their flyer”.

The PNC said it “considers the conveners’ decision to include the party on its flyer without first consulting the party as an act of disrespect”.

“If this happens once again, the party will bring legal action against the conveners”, the PNC warned.

The protest march, originally scheduled for Tuesday, 5 September 2023, has been rescheduled several times due to a court tussle between the police and the organisers over the route for the procession.

“The march will commence from the frontage of Parliament House- Osu Cemetary Traffic light- Ministry of Finance – High Court Complex – Kinbu – Makola Rawlings Park – Opera Square – Bank of Ghana,” the Minority announced in an earlier statement.

Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson said the march will be joined by CSOs, progressive forces and well-meaning Ghanaians.

“The purpose of this ptotest is to express our revulsion at the illegal printing of money (about GHS80 billion) between 2021 and 2022 by the BoG for the corrupt Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government which led to a hyper inflation rate of 54.1 per cent in December 2022”, Dr Ato Forson said.

“This singular act of BoG”, he emphasised, “has negatively impacted livelihoods and businesses and pushed about 850,000 Ghanaians into poverty in the year 2022 alone”.

The caucus said as representatives of the people, it is “totally disgusted by the crass mismanagement and reckless mishandling of the affairs of the Bank of Ghana, which resulted in a gargantuan loss of GHS60.8 billion and a negative equity of GHS55.1 in 2022 with its attendant hardships on Ghanaians”.
