Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Member of Parliament for Suame, has resigned from his position as Majority Leader.
He tendered his resignation as Majority Leader at a meeting involving the President, the Majority Caucus, and the National Officers of the NPP at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu noted that he has served the NPP diligently ever since he entered Parliament.
Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is currently one of the longest-serving lawmakers in Ghana.
He entered Parliament on the same day as President Akufo-Addo did on January 7th, 1997.
In addition, he is not running for office again in the next 2024 parliamentary elections.
In this regard, Suame’s citizens have responded to their member of parliament’s departure from his position as Majority Caucus leader and his refusal to return to parliament after the eighth parliament.
Some of them said that they thought it would be a wise decision for Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu to resign as majority leader in order to benefit his party.
Others said that it is appropriate for him to resign because he hasn’t done anything to enhance the quality of life for those living in the constituency.
Some expressed disappointment in him and felt it was best for him not to run for office again.
