The May 18, 2024 funeral of late Ejisu lawmaker, John Kumah was a big gathering for the political establishment as politicians across the political divide trooped in to pay their last respects to him.

Leading the government delegation was Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who praised Kumah’s political career, describing him a friend and a life lost hero.

Also in attendance was the Ashanti Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Boasiako, alias Chairman Wontumi, who was a very close ally of the late MP.

Other dignitaries from within the NPP were the National Chairman Stephen Ntim and General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, who delivered the party’s tribute.

A video has emerged of how Wontumi was avoided by former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen during the exchange of pleasantries.

In the said video, Wontumi, as leader of the NPP in the region takes a delegation around to greet guests seated under a tent.

When he gets to Alan and his wife, he manages to shake hands with Mrs Kyerematen but the former minister is captured turning his back at the same time to speak with someone, with Wontumi’s hands stretched.

The regional chairman moves on just as Alan turns back to greet the person next to Wontumi, who incidentally happened to be the National Chairman.

Relations between Alan and Wontumi soured in the events leading to and after the NPP presidential flagbearership contest last year.

Wontumi, who supported the bid of Bawumia, engaged in an exchange of words with Alan over claims by the latter that he had brought Wontumi into the NPP.

At a point, describing Wontumi as a junior brother, Alan cautioned him to be measured but that did not stop Wontumi and some employees of his media houses taking jabs at Alan.

Alan quit the NPP and is currently aspiring to contest as an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 elections.
