With crucial games in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying round coming up in June, Thomas Teye Partey, a defensive midfielder for Premier League team Arsenal, will captain the Black Stars.
With captain Andre Ayew out of the Black Stars lineup for the forthcoming matches against Mali and the Central African Republic, the deputy captain will assume leadership duties.
With regard to his choice to leave Andre Ayew off of his Black Stars roster, Coach Otto Addo stated that the attacker’s career is not over and that he will likely have another opportunity to play for the team in the future.
“The door is always open for Andre Ayew because we don’t know what will happen tomorrow. Never say never,” coach Otto Addo said.
While it is uncertain why Andre Ayew did not earn a place in the Black Stars squad for the games against Mali and Central African Republic, it is certain that Thomas Partey will lead the team as captain in the two important matches.
The World Cup qualification matches against Mali and Central African Republic will be played on June 6 and June 10 respectively.
