The office of the Ga Mantse has announced a historic visit by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, scheduled for Sunday, June 9, 2024.
This visit marks the first time an Asante monarch will officially visit the Ga state, signifying a strengthening of ties between the Ga and Asante peoples.
During a press briefing at the Ga Mantse’s Palace on Thursday, June 6, Nii Boi Abbey, head of the planning committee for the visit, outlined the plans for the event.
He revealed that the highlight of the day would be a grand durbar hosted by Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, at the palace’s forecourt in Kaneshie, Accra, starting at 11 am.
The event follows the Ga Mantse’s recent participation in the 25th-anniversary celebration of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s ascension to the throne, as well as his 74th birthday celebration.
It aims to reinvigorate the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the Ga and Asante communities, which have a rich history of exchange in governance, cultural practices, and traditions.
Nii Abbey emphasised the significance of this event in celebrating and renewing the cultural and historical ties that bind the Ashantis and the Gas.
“The Office of the Ga Mantse, therefore, invites all to witness this great moment in Ghanaian traditional history at the forecourt of the Ga Mantse’s Palace in Kaneshie, Accra, at 11 am on Sunday, June 9,” he announced.
