Football analyst Osei Owusu Bempah has called for former Ghana coach James Kwasi Appiah to resign from his position on the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Bempah’s appeal stems from concerns over Appiah’s dual role, especially after the Black Stars were drawn in the same 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers group as Sudan, a team Appiah currently manages.
Although GFA regulations do not explicitly prohibit such dual roles, apprehensions about potential conflicts of interest persist.
Speaking on Luv FM in Kumasi, Bempah emphasized that Appiah should step down entirely from the GFA’s decision-making body, rather than simply abstaining from discussions ahead of matches against Sudan.
“So, for example, if today the GFA convenes a meeting to discuss playing Sudan and strategizes on how to beat them to qualify, how would Kwesi Appiah be able to participate in such discussions?” he questioned.
“What it does is that you’re having insider information, and we are talking about two different federations here. I’m hearing people say no, he has to recuse himself. Why doesn’t he rather just stay away? That is my personal advice,” Bempah added.
