Ho Sports Facility Struggles with Financial Constraints, Says NSA Director

The Ho Sports Facility is facing significant management challenges due to financial difficulties, according to Madam Joyce Datsa, the Volta Regional Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA). During a ‘Meet The Press’ event on August 13, 2024, held at the Ho Sports Stadium, Datsa revealed that the facility is struggling to manage its operations due to the lack of government subventions.

The current charging structure for venue use is GHC 400 for facility rental and an additional GHC 100 for sanitation has been deemed prohibitively too low for many potential users. Datsa acknowledged that while this pricing structure is in place, it may be reviewed in the future to improve accessibility.

The delay in government funding is attributed to broader financial issues affecting the NSA’s parent body. Despite promises of support from local officials, including the Regional Minister and the Municipal Chief Executive, no NSA representatives are on the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) sports committee.

Datsa highlighted her top priority is roofing the popular stand at the stadium. In addition to this, there are plans to organize corporate games aimed at attracting corporate sponsorship and raising funds for stadium renovations.

The Director also noted the need to revitalize dormant sports federations and support the formation of new ones, such as arm wrestling and weightlifting. Furthermore, the land on which the Ho Youth Resource Center is situated still belongs to the NSA but has not yet been officially transferred to their management.
