The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has hailed the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, for his effective leadership during Tuesday’s parliamentary session.
The party, through its General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, lauded the Speaker’s approach to managing the day’s proceedings, describing it as a model of parliamentary leadership.
In a statement issued on October 22, the NDC praised Bagbin for his maturity and balanced handling of the session, which they believe reflected his commitment to safeguarding the interests of both the legislative body and the nation.
The party highlighted how Bagbin’s leadership has bolstered the credibility of Parliament and expressed optimism that he will continue to uphold the institution’s independence.’
“We applaud him for working in the interest of Parliament and the people of Ghana and enhancing the integrity of Parliament with his leadership,”
The statement comes after Alban Bagbin on Tuesday announced the indefinite adjournment of parliamentary proceedings.
The move comes after a tumultuous day in the Chamber, characterized by heated disputes between Members of Parliament (MPs) from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the question of which caucus holds the Majority.
During the adjournment announcement, Speaker Bagbin briefly noted that he had received a communication from the Supreme Court, which directed him to stay his earlier ruling that declared four parliamentary seats vacant.
However, he did not elaborate on the details of the communication, leaving MPs and observers in the dark regarding the implications of the Court’s directive.
The Speaker informing the House on Tuesday said although they have the numbers to transact business, the House did not have the numbers to make decisions.
