The Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has responded to former President John Mahama’s recent remarks, stating that Mahama’s use of “insults” will not prevent his defeat in the upcoming December election.

Dr. Bawumia made these comments during his tour of the Ahafo Region, following a viral video of Mahama’s critique, where he used the phrase “…It’s about the economy, stupid…,” a line from former U.S. President Bill Clinton’s campaign in 1992.

So many people have seen what is going to happen, so they are worried and scared, Dr. Bawumia remarked, adding, They know they are going to lose. They are scared. Because of that, they have started the insults. The insults have already started.

The exchange follows a recent back-and-forth between the two candidates, with Mahama issuing five questions to Bawumia, to which the Vice President responded with 50 questions of his own. The escalating tension has prompted both parties to engage in increasingly pointed remarks.

Directing his response at Mahama, Dr. Bawumia stated: The Akans have a saying that long talk does not buy a horse. Isn’t it? Long talk doesn’t buy a horse,” adding, “I want to add that insults cannot buy a horse. You can keep insulting all the time; it won’t change anything. You will still lose the election.
