In a closely contested election, incumbent Member of Parliament for Sekondi and Tourism Minister, Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer, has lost his seat to National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Blay Nyameke Armah.
According to provisional results, Egyapa Mercer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) secured 11,084 votes, representing 42.94% of the total valid votes. In contrast, Blay Nyameke Armah garnered 14,558 votes, corresponding to 56.40%. Out of the 25,813 votes cast, 171 ballots were rejected.
The Sekondi constituency seat was first occupied by the NDC in 1996 with the late Albert Bosomtwi Sam. Egyapa Mercer had previously dominated the seat in the 2016 and 2020 elections after Papa Owusu Ankomah decided not to contest again.
