The Covid-19 has placed a heavy toll on human and economic development in Ghana and the Ashanti Region has been one of the regions being affected by this pandemic.

The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate today, 6 December, 2021 has launched the Ashanti Regional Covid-19 Vaccination Month with the aim of involving the populates in the vaccination exercise ahead of this festive season.

 

Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, the Ashanti Regional Health Director briefing the press assured that the Health Directorate are ready to combat the pandemic with the availability of the vaccines in this festive month.

“We’ll do as much as we can to ensure that as many people in the region are vaccinated in this month because we have enough vaccines in the system to be able to take care of the majority so that it will help us prevent a possible 4th wave of this pandemic.”

 

The Health Director hinted on a possible 4th wave of the pandemic if the people in the region fail to adhere to the protocols as Ghana records cases of the new Omicron Variant.

“We’ve realized that every 6 months we have a new wave and with our cycle that we run, we had a 3rd wave in June then it’s expected that we’re gonna have a 4th wave in either this month or January with regards to the activities that goes on in December.”

 

 

 

 

“We are trying as much as possible to make sure that the people in the region who are eligible are vaccinated through the massive campaign will be embarking with targeted people over 500,000 at the end of this month,” he added.

 

He finally called upon all social groups to get in touch with the Health Directorate for them to be part of the vaccination exercise for free.

 

“We are calling upon all social groups including, Churches, Schools, Fun Clubs, Keep-Fit-Clubs amongst others to get in touch with the Health Directorate for them to be vaccinated for free.”

 

Statistics shows that over 1.3 million people in the region has been able to be immunize with 2.7 million people left to be vaccinated.

The Ashanti Region has a cumulative cases of 20,726 with 20,338 recoveries and 382 deaths with only 6 active cases.
