Excitement radiated at the Fiesta Royale Hotel as Adonten Senior High School emerged as winners in the 2023 National Business Pitch Competition (NBPC) which was held in Accra.
The high-spirited contestants from Adonten Senior High School located south of Aburi in the Eastern Region became champions of 2023 National Business Pitch Competition after defeating 14 other schools in the highly competitive contest.

They took home the title of Company of the Year as well as a fifteen thousand Ghana cedis (GH₵15,000) cash prize as start-up money and a host of other amazing products from our partners including a Turf air-conditioner.
The students created a company called PELB, that produces eco-friendly Portable Electronic Lunch Bags with the ability to warm food using regular electricity and solarenergy.
O’Reilly Senior High School from Accra secured the second place with their company, Zesty Blends, an innovative tea company focused on crafting exquisite lemongrass-based teas.
The third place was B&B Plastics Company Ltd. from St. Francis Girls Senior High School, Jirapa (Upper West Region), a company that recycles plastic waste into moulded blocks, beads, and other products to combat plastic pollution.
BRANDED AWARDS
As part of the competition, the headline sponsors, the Project Management Institute Educational Foundation (PMIEF), the Tomorrow Foundation and Boeing, presented several awards to the student companies that demonstrated exceptional qualities.
PMIEF presented the Project Management Award to the team that exhibited an outstanding understanding of project management concepts and the application of PM principles in their operations.
O’Reilly Senior High School was the recipient of this award.
The Tomorrow Foundation presented the Future Tech-innovation award to Tarkwa Senior High School, recognizing the team’s innovative, original, or groundbreaking ideas.
The Boeing Public Choice Award, presented to the team whose promotional video received the highest number of votes on YouTube, was won by Aburi Girls Senior High School.
Also sponsoring the event, Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, presented the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award to Keta Senior High for demonstrating uniqueness, creativity, risk-taking, business sense, and adaptability.
The Academic City University College, a premium quality tertiary education institution in Africa with a state-of-the-art ultra-modern campus in Accra, Ghana presented the Excellence in Teamwork award to O’Reilly Senior High School. The award recognized the team that demonstrated a strong team spirit and collaboration.
Databank Foundation also presented the Social Impact award to St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School. The award recognized the company’s relevance to social challenges, impact
potential, and sustainability.
The competition, an adaptation of the prestigious COY Competition, brought together 60 young entrepreneurs from fifteen high schools across Ghana namely: Legacy Girls College, Aburi Girls Senior High School, Northern School of Business, Adonten Senior High School, Presbyterian Boys Senior High School- Legon, St. Thomas Aquinas, O’reilly Senior High School, Bolgatanga Senior High School, Ghana Senior High School- Koforidua, Adukrom Presbyterian Senior High Technical, St. Francis Girls’ Senior High School, Tema International School, Archbishop Porter Girls, and Tarkwa Senior High School.
The 2023 National Business Pitch Competition was organized under the theme: “Breaking Barriers” by J. A Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to empowering people to own their economic success by enhancing the relevance of education.
In attendance was The UN Resident Coordinator Charles Abani, Deputy CEO, National Youth Authority Hon. Akosua Manu, board members of JA Ghana and other Senior Executives and Business Leaders from corporate Ghana spanning multiple industries in banking, aviation, hospitality, oil and gas, agribusiness, youth policy,
etc.
WELCOME SPEECH
In his welcome address at the Dinner and Awards Gala held at the Fiesta Royale Hotel, Mr. Abeiku Greene, Executive Director of JA Ghana, thanked guests for honouring the invitation to celebrate the young entrepreneurs and commended the students for their dedication and ingenuity.
He remarked that the students are “architects of our future, visionaries, disruptors, and pioneers whose innovations possess the power to rewrite the narrative of our economy and society”.
KEYNOTE SPEAKER
The Keynote Speaker and Deputy Minister for Education, Hon. Rev John Ntim Fordjour, in his address said, “I am inspired by the innovations presented by these high school entrepreneurs. We are looking forward to a future where our young Ghanaians will create businesses and industries that tackle pressing challenges in our communities and create hundreds of thousands of jobs for the unemployed”. He commended JA Ghana for their efforts in providing entrepreneurship training to high school students and added that “We can only innovate our way out of poverty.”
In his remarks as Head Judge, the COO of CAPP Global Limited, Nana Boafo Gyamerah-Ako, added that “One thing I was impressed with was the students’ ability to articulate their ideas with certain clarity of expression.”
APROPOS “NBPC”
The National Business Pitch Competition (NBPC) is a platform dedicated to growing entrepreneurial skills among the youth through innovative ideas and the use of technology.
Since the start of the year, students from 40 high schools created and ran businesses under the JA Company Program, JA’s flagship entrepreneurship program for high school students, with15 schools qualifying as finalists to compete in the National Competition.
The students presented solutions to challenges facing agriculture, solar energy, sanitation and hygiene. The solutions were in the form of mobile applications, appliances, products and services.
Entrepreneurship education is a critical pathway to solving the growing youth employment challenge in Ghana and JA’s mission is to bridge this gap.
