The faction supporting John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race is calling for the immediate removal of the name of the Chief of Staff, Madam Frema Akosua Opare, from the approved voter register for the upcoming Special Delegates Congress.

According to Alan’s group, the presence of the chief of staff’s name in the register highlights inconsistencies and irregularities identified in the voter register sanctioned for the scheduled election on August 26, 2023.

“After reviewing the album, we’ve identified some names that are unconstitutional inclusions. The name of the chief of staff, for instance, is constitutionally inappropriate,” remarked Hopeson Adorye, a prominent member of the Alan campaign team, during an interview on Atinka TV.

Mr. Adorye, while referring to the party’s constitution, fervently called for the prompt exclusion of the chief of staff’s name from the register.

“Our party’s regulations do not acknowledge her [chief of staff]. So, why is her name included? It must be removed immediately. We refuse to accept this; we won’t permit her to cast a vote because it’s against the law. We’ve closely examined the album and are formally objecting to certain occurrences. The Election Committee needs to address this; it’s all part of the fairness we are advocating for. Every single vote matters in an election,” he expressed with frustration.

The NPP has cleared ten candidates for the presidential primary, which will determine the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 general election.

As per the party’s constitutional obligations, a special congress is set for August 26, during which a selected group of delegates will vote to narrow down the contenders to five before the final election on November 4, 2023.

Speaking on Atinka TV, Mr. Adorye strongly emphasized that Alan’s supporters will vehemently oppose any attempt to provide the chief of staff with a ballot paper during the special congress.
