Tension is mounting on the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal of the Ashanti Region, as irate group called Atwima Nwabiagya Youth For Development issue a stern caution to the Regional Minister, Hon Simon Osei Mensah, to ensure a credible and transparent election by the Assembly members on the confirmation of their Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) nominee for the area, adding that it will not accept results of a flawed election.

According to the youth, they are very displeased about the unfortunate interference in the first election by the Assembly members on the confirmation of  government’s MCE nominee for Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal, Mr Michael Amoah Awuku.

Assembly Members of the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Assembly  rejected the president’s nominee, Mr Michael Amoah Awuku as the Municipal Chief Executive.

The assembly members, at an election to approve or reject the nominee on Monday , September 27, 2021, did not give, Mr Amoah Awuku the adequate number of votes to get him approved.

During his (Mr. Michael Amoah) first confirmation election pulled 19 YES as against 12 NO votes and couldn’t find his way through but the youth says they are not comfortable on how the election was conducted.

The youth  alleged that there were series of electoral malpractices in the first one in favor of Hon. Awuku, so they are now pleading with the election observers to make this second time free and fair.

They has also sends strong warning to Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei Mensah to make sure that in the second confirmation election there will not be any intimidation of the Assembly members and let them vote on their  own choice.

The leader of the youth, Foster Otchere, pleaded with both the electoral commission and the regional minister to conduct a free and fair election in the confirmation of the nominee, Hon. Michael Amoah Awuku in his second time.

“The authorities will see the wrong side of our attitudes, if such electoral malpractices happens again in the second confirmation election,” Mr. Otchere added.

Some of the youth also added their voices to the same plea and thanked the elected assembly members for listening to their concerns by rejecting Hon. Michael Amoah Awuku during his first confirmation election.
