NPP Announces Plans To Suspend Its Ongoing Nationwide “Thank You Tour“

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to suspend its ongoing nationwide “Thank You Tour“.

This decision is to allow the party to fully participate in the upcoming political parties demonstration, dubbed “Save the Judiciary Demo,” scheduled for May 5, 2025.

The demonstration is a coordinated response by four political parties to President John Mahama’s recent and controversial suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo.

The parties view the President’s action as a direct assault on the independence of the judiciary, the third arm of government.

Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B), the National Organiser of the NPP, revealed this development in an interview with Asaase News.

He emphasized that the planned demonstration is a significant “national assignment” involving a coalition of five political parties.

Nana Boakye stated that the NPP party machinery will now concentrate its efforts on ensuring a strong showing at the demonstration to send a clear message to the Mahama administration against what they perceive as interference in the judiciary’s independence.

“The party intends to suspend the tour so that all of us can be part of this important national exercise. This is bigger than party lines — we are fighting for Ghanaians and the future of our democratic institutions,” Henry Nana Boakye told Asaase News.

Nana Boakye also highlighted the support from the Minority in Parliament for the planned demonstration.

“It is refreshing to note that the Minority in Parliament has also declared its support for the coalition’s demonstration. The Minority Leader has expressed a strong commitment to the cause, and we believe this united front sends a clear message

The Save the Judiciary demo, under the auspices of the Coalition of Political Parties, comes off on Monday, May 5, 2025

– Starting Point: Car Park Opposite the Supreme Court and adjacent to Nkrumah’s Mausoleum/Memorial Park.

– ⁠Dress Code: Red / black
