As the world continues to battle the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate in Ghana has taken a proactive step towards protecting its population.

Today, September 20th, 2023, they have officially launched the 8th Covid-19 Vaccination Week Campaign, under the theme, “Protect Yourself, Protect Your Family, Get Vaccinated Against Covid-19 Now.”

This crucial campaign, running from September 20th to 24th, 2023, aims to reach a significant portion of the region’s population, targeting a total of 156,630 individuals.

What’s commendable about this effort is its comprehensive approach, as it extends its reach to homes, schools, lorry stations, churches, mosques, and all health facilities.

Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, the Ashanti Regional Health Director, emphasized the readiness of the Health Directorate to execute this vaccination drive effectively.

He urged the people of the region to welcome health personnel into their communities and homes, assuring them that the government has provided all necessary equipment and personnel required for the campaign.

One of the significant challenges the Health Directorate faces is vaccine hesitancy, Dr. Tenkorang stressed the importance of overcoming this issue, as it poses a significant barrier to achieving herd immunity.

Looking at the vaccination progress as of August 30th, 2023, the region has made commendable strides.

A total of 4,624,145 doses have been administered, with 1,871,509 individuals fully vaccinated, representing 56.9% of the population, and 2,565,108 individuals have received at least one dose, covering 78.6% of the population.
