Confirmation Of MMDCEs: Assin South Assembly Rejects President’s nominee

admin@myghanamedia September 29, 2021 POLITICS 1,692 Views

The Assin South District Assembly on Tuesday, 29th September, 2021, failed to endorse the President’s nominee, Hon Felicia Amissah as the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE).

The former MCE, who appeared sober by the turn of events secured 21 out of the 36 votes cast by the Assembly Members present, while 12 voted no and 3 was rejected.

Many Assembly members who were shocked to the core and could not fathom what might have caused the painful rejection of Hon Felicia Amissah called for calm and urged the Party to listen to the voice of the grassroots.

They claimed the former MCE had performed incredibly well and should have received an overwhelming endorsement and pledged to lobby their colleagues to secure endorsement for the President’s nominee.

The Government Nominee for Assin South District, Hon Felicia Amissah did not attain the required votes as Article 243 (1) of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act 2016, (Act 936) stipulates that ‘there shall be a District Chief Executive for every district who shall be appointed by the President with the prior approval of not less than two-thirds majority of members of the Assembly present and voting the meeting”
