Dr. Hassan Ayariga To Sue NIA For Failing To Issue His Ghana Card

The Founder of All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Hassan Ayariga has served an indication he would soon be heading to the Court over why the National Identification Authority (NIA) has refused to issue his Ghana Card to him after 3 years of registration.

His outburst follows a Bank of Ghana directive that with effect from July 1, 2022, the Ghana Card shall be the only identification card that will be used to undertake transactions at all licensed and regulated financial institutions in the country.

Registering his displeasure at the directive in a Facebook post, Dr. Ayariga remarked that the central bank and the telecom companies cannot limit proof of identification to only Ghana Card. He said documents such as Passport and Voters ID should equally be accepted since they were issued by the government.

“What is happening in our nation Ghana. We have passports, we have voters ID cards and now Ghana Cards. Let the government know these documents are proof of identification issued by the government of Ghana. Telecos (MTN) and bank of Ghana cannot reduce acceptance of identification to only Ghana Cards,” he wrote.

He questioned, “What form of documents (ID) will they accept from a foreigner who visits Ghana for business or holidays?”

To him, it is only in this part of the world where a single ID card is accepted for financial transactions. He then cautioned the authorities not to mess up the country with this directive.

Dr. Ayariga disclosed all attempts to take delivery of his Ghana Card has been unsuccessful after registering for the ID in 2019. According to him, he has now been told to lodge an official complaint with the Ghana Police Service that his Ghana Card is missing before he could be issued with a another one.

Mr. Ayariga who could get the understanding of reporting a missing Ghana Card when he has not been issued with any, indicated the matter would very soon be settled in the law courts.

He, therefore, called on the people to reject the “Ghana Card only” directive, suggesting that Ghanaians are going through these challenges due to incompetency of the government.

It is only in Ghana that only one form of identification will be acceptable for transactions. please don’t mess our nation up. Please remember, No conditions is permanent. Governance is a continuous business.

I have registered for my Ghana card since 2019 till date I don’t have it and am being told to go to the police to report of my missing Ghana card before I can be issued with another one. How can I report of a missing card when I have not received any?

Certainly Our Courts will determine this matter and expect it very soon. No one can force Ghana card on us. Look at how Ghanaians are suffering because of your incompetence.
